GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As a low-pressure system moves from west to east, it sets the stage for an unusual Monday forecast. Here’s what you need to know.
Dense Fog
We experienced plenty of fog over the weekend, and while many areas saw a break this morning, another round of patchy to dense fog is possible this afternoon. This may result in periods of reduced visibility from the early afternoon through the evening commute. Drivers should remain cautious and be prepared for fluctuating conditions. Although no fog advisories are currently in effect, we’ll continue to monitor for any updates throughout the day. Any lingering fog is expected to clear once the front passes after 7 PM.
Winter Warmth
We’re starting the day on a mild note, with morning temperatures in the 40s, and the warmth will stick around this afternoon—well above mid-December standards. Highs across West Michigan will range from 43 to 51 degrees, with southerly winds at 6 to 12 mph.
However, this warm-up will be brief. As winds shift to the northwest behind today’s front, cooler air will gradually move in. Temperatures will dip into the low 40s tomorrow, followed by a steady decline into the mid to low 30s by the end of the workweek.
Rain Chances
Scattered showers started this morning and will gradually taper off throughout the day, remaining isolated through 6 PM. While rainfall totals will be light—ranging from a trace to a quarter of an inch—the combination of rain and unseasonably warm temperatures will likely diminish much of the remaining snowpack. With today’s mild conditions, there’s no concern for any mixing; it will be all rain.
Snowfall chances return midweek, with a minor chance for light snow on Wednesday. Another round is possible Thursday night into Friday, which could bring a few additional inches of accumulation.
