These are the roads closed in Kalamazoo after heavy rain

If you're in need of medical attention, public safety officials say to approach Bronson Hospital from the west, on Walnut Street.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Heavy rain slammed into Kalamazoo for a second night, causing flooding and debris to close a multitude of roads.

Thunderstorms progressed through West Michigan from west to east, arriving at the lakeshore around 9 p.m. Kalamazoo was one of the counties under the threat of a tornado, but only received a downpour instead.

City officials say much of the water was beginning to recede when the storm cleared around 2 a.m., but the following roads remain closed:

  • Intersection of S Burdick St / Lake St
  • Crosstown Parkway from John St east on Crosstown to Mills St has multiple flooded areas
  • Crosstown Parkway between Park St and Rose St
  • Park St between Crosstown Parkway and Forest St
  • Forest St between Park St and Rose St
  • Rose St between Crosstown Parkway and Forest St
  • Jasper St between Vine St and Crosstown Parkway
  • Dutton St between Jasper St and Portage Rd
  • Walnut St between Jasper St and Portage Rd
  • Lake St between John St and Walter St
  • Reed Ct between Egleston and Stockbridge

If you're in need of medical attention, public safety officials say to approach Bronson Hospital from the west, on Walnut Street.

They're reminding drivers not to try to traverse large puddles on the road, as it can be difficult to determine the depth and easy to be swept away.
