GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — We are starting off our Wednesday morning with "Very Unhealthy" air quality. That's a five out of six, with six being the worst air quality possible. These numbers fluctuate by the minute and we will likely fall into the "Unhealthy" category throughout the day, showing minor improvements. However, Air Quality Alerts will likely remain in place through Thursday night.
There are several websites that have the latest air quality information:
While periods of the day will feature smoke-filled skies, we will see slow and minor improvements, with the thickest smoke expected south of I-96. These improvements will be short-lived with thicker smoke expected to return throughout the early afternoon hours on Thursday.
It's suggested that sensitive groups avoid prolonged exposure outside and any physical activity. That includes children, the elderly, and those with lung diseases. Everyone should be limiting the amount of strenuous activity done outdoors. If you do have to spend long periods of time outdoors, consider wearing a mask.
