CLEVELAND — The 3News weather team was expecting unseasonably warm temperatures to hit the Lakefront on Saturday. Turns out, it was one of the hottest January days Cleveland has ever seen.

The National Weather Service confirms the temperature in downtown Cleveland hit 70 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon, shattering the old record for Jan. 11 set back in 1890. According to the service's data, it's also the warmest January day Cleveland has seen since 1950, when a 73-degree mark on Jan. 25 set what still stands as the record for the month.

Multiple cities across Northeast Ohio were expected to approach or break temperature records Saturday, and quite a few did: Akron hit 71 degrees, Mansfield hit 69, and Youngstown hit 66. Things have since started to cool down and much of the region is now in the 40s.

Despite the high temps, it wasn't exactly a beautiful day: Wind, rain, and fog have hovered over much of Cleveland since the morning, and late tonight officials expect wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour to hit the area. In addition, 3News meteorologist Jason Frazer expects things to drop back into the 30s overnight.

FORECAST: High Wind Warning tonight
