GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — After a tranquil stretch of weather, a more unsettled pattern is expected next week. This includes rain, snow, cold temperatures and gusty winds.

FORECAST

A low-pressure system is expected to move through Tuesday morning through Tuesday night. It will arrive as rain and transition to rain and snow by Tuesday night. Some snow will wrap in on the back edge of the system. Winds are out of the northwest and the temperature will favor lake-effect snow to develop. Currently, that is expected to wrap up by Wednesday night. However, changes are possible and we could see this push into Thanksgiving.

In addition to the change from rain to snow will be a change to our temperatures. We fall into the 30s on Wednesday and stay in the 30s through Sunday. This, coupled with gusty winds, will make it feel like the teens Wednesday and Thanksgiving.

IMPACTS

There are still several unknown variables within this forecast, including snowfall totals. Lake-effect snow can not be perfectly forecasted until 48 hours before the event. That said, the snow that does fall will likely be heavy and dense. This could cause travel impacts and road congestion, especially with holiday travel in full effect.

Many of the details surrounding this forecast are still somewhat uncertain, but it is something the 13 On Your Side Weather Department will track over the next several days.
