GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Even though astronomical spring arrived Tuesday evening winter is far from over. A high-impact snowfall event is expected Friday, that will likely impact travel throughout the day, with effects lingering over the weekend after the snow accumulates.
TIMELINE
Snow is expected to develop around 4 a.m. Friday, quickly spreading east across all of West Michigan, continuing through the morning, mid-day and into the evening commutes, before departing the region late Friday evening.
IMPACTS
The fast-moving winter storm will create the following impacts:
- High Winds - Low Impacts
- Reduced Visibility - Medium Impacts
- Travel - Medium Impacts
- Power Outages - Medium Impacts
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS
The Euro model is forecasting up to 6+" for the event, some of which will be melting as it falls. Snowfall accumulation on the ground will depend on how fast the snow falls vs. how quickly it melts. Most areas will see at least 3"+.
