What’s Up This Weekend: Wizarding Weekends, Allegan County Fair, Project 1, Muskegon Latino Festival

With only a few summer weekends left, Grand Rapids Kids helps you plan some fun!

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —

Every Wednesday, we help you plan your weekend, with Grand Rapids Kids

It’s the time of year to soak up what’s left of the summer. You can do that during Wizarding Weekends at John Ball Zoo. The zoo will be transformed for two weekends, Sept. 7 and 8, as well as Sept. 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. The event includes interactive exhibits, activities, crafts, games, unique entertainment, and specialty foods. Costumes are encouraged!

The Allegan County Fair runs from Sept. 6 through 14. There’s a ton going on, including Little Big Town and Dan + Shay concerts, tractor pulls, harness racing, demo derbys, monster trucks, a parade, rodeo, carnival and more. General admission for adults is $7, for kids it’s $4, and children kindergarten and under are free. The fair is happening at the Allegan County Fairgrounds.

Kicking off on Saturday, Sept. 7, is Project 1 by ArtPrize. It runs each Saturday in September, and the last week in October. Crossed Lines is a citywide public art exhibition, about what it means to belong. Project 1 includes art installations, public events, performances, urban interventions and community-oriented projects.

Also on Sept. 7 is the first ever Muskegon Latino Festival from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Hackley Park. The festival celebrates people, culture and Latino heritage during a day filled with food, entertainment and fun.
