Fall festivities coming to West Michigan

West Michigan Tourist Association gives us a rundown of some fall festivities coming to West Michigan.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Fall is heating up in more than one way, there are a ton of exciting fall festivities coming to West Michigan!

Courtney Sheffer, with West Michigan Tourist Association gives us the rundown of the upcoming fall events:

First up is the annual celebration of the Harvest Festival at Blandford Nature Center with classic, festive fun! The festival is on Saturday, Oct. 12. The celebration will feature scarecrow making, candle dipping, horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, game/crafts, and more. Friends and families can enjoy fresh donuts, cider and other concessions as well as Vander Mill hard cider and local craft beer for the adults.

Other fall events at Blandford Nature Center include "Indigenous Foodways" on Oct. 5 and "OWLween" on Oct. 25 

Next up is the Luminescence at Saugatuck Center for the Arts on Friday, Oct. 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free admission. This interactive, light fused exhibit prompts passive viewers to become active participants, redefining the typical viewer-viewed relationship by creating a responsive, hands-on experience. 

Following the exhibit is the Silver Beach Haunted Scarousel on Oct. 24, anyone wearing a costume will get one free ride! Plus, there will be a free hourly drawings for Ty stuffed figures and mini-LEGO builds. Everywhere you turn, there are hollow-eyed skulls and skeletons, silent zombies, draping spider webs, creepy crawlies, flying bats and fluttering ghost. Beware. Lurking somewhere in the shadows is the headless horseman!

As you whirl around beneath 1,000 Halloween lights casting an eerie glow on the Scareousel, the band organ plays spine-tingly music (and some giggly, monster mashing tunes, too). Come in costume (the figures will wear their witch's hats) and take photos. 

Oct. 17 is the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Enter the free hourly drawings for Peanuts windsocks and Halloween stickers.

The Scareousel will be closed on Oct. 31, so you can enjoy your local Halloween festivities. 

Get up close and personal with the fastest plane ever flown! For the first time ever, the Air Zoo's SR-71B's cockpits will be open for public viewing Oct. 4-6 at the SR-71 Spy-Posium! The world's only remaining SR-71B Blackbird.

Join fascinating panel discussions, engage with crew and enthusiasts, and explore specially displayed Blackbird artifacts! "Blackbird Affair" is happening on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 5. Their evening raffle will give you the chance to win a seat in one of the cockpit! Only 200 lucky individuals get to attend this event and spots are selling fast. 

Last on the list is Centreville Antiques Market on Sunday, Oct. 13 near Three Rivers, south of Kalamazoo. The market is held four times a year and this is the last one of the year. It is a fantastic variety of antiques and collectibles will be offered from dealers throughout the upper Midwest! There will be great food and ample free parking is available.
