GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — When you or a loved one has a serious illness finding time for a healthy meal is probably not at the top of your list. Fortunately there's a place right here in Grand Rapids that offers free meals for anyone going through a serious illness. The Revive and Thrive Project brings the community together and provides healing meals for people who need them.
The Revive & Thrive Project also provides local teens the opportunity to learn how to grow and prepare healthy foods and the relevance of those foods on health through the Teen Chef Program.
“We all know or have known someone diagnosed with cancer or another life threatening illness, and we have seen the way it affects their life, their loved ones and the road to recovery is difficult,’’ said Wendy Borden, founder of the Revive & Thrive Project. “As an individual is undergoing treatment, the capability and availability to provide nutritious meals is not easy. At Revive & Thrive, we take away the barrier of making those nutritious meals, so they can focus on their recovery and provide for food for the entire family.’’
Their farm to table fundraising dinner features Dr. Dawn Opel is this year's keynote speaker. Opel is an assistant professor at Michigan State University., and will be discussing putting “Food is Medicine” into action in the state of Michigan.
