GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Sign ahoy! The "Coast Guard City USA" sign is in place high atop Dewey Hill in Grand Haven just days before the 100th anniversary of the Coast Guard Festival.

Grand Haven was the first of 34 cities to be named a Coast Guard City by the United States Congress. The city earned the inaugural honor on Nov. 13, 1998.

Every year ahead of the Coast Guard Festival, Grand Haven puts up its famous Coast Guard City USA sign just below the towering anchor on Dewey Hill across from the Waterfront Stadium.

"Thank you Sector Field Office Grand Haven and Brad Boyink for taking the time to put the letters up and getting Coast Guard City ready for the festival," the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival posted on their Facebook page.

The 100th Coast Guard Festival kicks off on Friday, July 26 and lasts through Sunday, Aug. 4.
