Kent County jury finds HIV-positive man guilty of years-long sexual abuse of child

KENT CITY, Mich. — On Wednesday, a Kent City man was found guilty on a slew of charges related to sex crimes involving a young child. Probable cause documents showed the man also has a positive HIV status.

30-year-old Christopher Michael Haggerty was found guilty on three charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 1st Degree involving a person under the age of 13, one charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 2nd Degree involving a person under the age of 13 and one charge of HIV Knowingly Engaging in Intercourse with an Uninformed Partner with Reckless Disregard Without Causing HIV.

The Kent County Prosecutor's Office said the sexual abuse took place for years. The victim told officials during a forensic interview that the abuse began when the child was just 5 or 6 years old and continued until 11 years old.

A date for Haggerty's sentencing has not yet been set.
