OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — On Tuesday, the Ottawa County Prosector's Office authorized charges against Alejandro Chavez for a fatal crash that occurred back in July of 2024 in Holland Twp. at the entrance of Quincy Park.
The crash took place just after 3 p.m. on July 21 when a boat trailer broke free and hit two pedestrians near the intersection of Quincy St. and 140th Ave.
The pedestrians were walking on a bike path nearby and were trapped under the boat and trailer until first responders were able to get them free.
One pedestrian, a 62-year-old from Holland, passed away from their injuries. The other pedestrian, a 38-year-old from Holland, was brought to a nearby hospital by Aero Med to be treated for their injuries.
44-year-old Chavez was charged with moving violation causing death, driving while license suspended causing death, failing to stop and identify causing death, moving violation causing serious injury, driving while license suspended causing serious injury, and failing to stop and identify causing serious injury.
Chavez was jailed on Sept. 18. Officials did not share when he might appear in court.
