WYOMING, Mich. — A man who is accused of being involved in a shooting at a Walmart in Wyoming on New Year's Eve last year has taken a plea deal.
Camrin Carpenter was initially facing a total of six charges, but had four of them dropped in exchange for the plea.
Carpenter was charged with three counts of carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, firearm felony and a dangerous weapon charge.
As part of Carpenter's plea deal, all but the assault with a deadly weapon and one of the carrying a concealed weapon charges were dropped.
The incident took place on Dec. 31, 2023, at the Walmart in Wyoming. Carpenter and another man, Latrell Young, allegedly got into a verbal altercation with a shopper at the checkout.
Police say that Carpenter showed the victim his gun before the victim ran from the two men.
Young and Carpenter allegedly chased the victim through the store and Young shot him several times at close range. Police say at least 10 rounds were fired.
That victim, who was shot, showed up to a hospital later for treatment. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The second victim, a woman who authorities said was not a target, was also struck.
At the time of the shooting, the store was full and was evacuated. The store closed for the night but reopened the next morning.
Carpenter will be due back in court for a sentencing.
