GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The head of security for the largest school district in West Michigan says he is back to work Tuesday after three weeks of paid administrative leave.

Grand Rapids Public Schools Chief of Staff & Executive Director of Public Safety & School Security Larry Johnson told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that he returned to work on Tuesday.

13 ON YOUR SIDE reached out GRPS for more about the investigation, and they said they cannot discuss personnel matters.

A previous statement from a district spokesperson indicates that Johnson was on leave after a phone conversation between Johnson and a parent that led to the investigation.

“The district is aware of a concern raised by a parent about the handling of a telephone conversation involving Chief of Staff Larry Johnson. Because of Mr. Johnson’s role within the district, an outside firm was brought in to handle the review of this matter.

Other administrators are handling Mr. Johnson’s duties during this process.

Out of respect for the privacy of our employees, the district does not discuss personnel matters with the public.”

Johnson is a former police officer who has worked for the school district since 1997.
