18-year-old woman killed in Grand Rapids crash last week identified

The woman killed in a crash early Friday morning when her SUV hit a tree has been identified by the Grand Rapids Police Department.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The woman killed when her SUV hit a tree in Grand Rapids early Friday morning has been identified by the Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD).

Brooklyn Botello, 18, died after her SUV hit a tree along Breton Street SE just south of 28th Street on Friday, Aug. 23 at about 12:40 a.m.

Botello was pronounced dead at the scene and another occupant of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with what GRPD called "potentially life-threatening injuries." His current condition is unknown. Both people had to be extricated from the crash by the Grand Rapids Fire Department.

GRPD said that they were initially unable to identify Botello.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
