GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Around 200 homes in Grand Rapids don't have water service and will need to boil their water once their service is restored.
City officials issued a boil water notice Thursday at 2 p.m. for homes on four streets in the city following a water main break early Thursday morning.
These customers currently don't have water service and will need to boil their water once service is restored by the city.
The areas affected by the boil water advisory are:
- Adams Street SE – Fuller Avenue SE to Cambridge Drive SE
- Edward Avenue SE – Adams to Boston Street SE
- Sylvan Avenue SE – Adams to Boston St
- Philadelphia Avenue SE – Adams to Boston
Staff from the Grand Rapids Water System (GR Water) will go door-to-door to affected homes handing out bottles of water donated by Meijer.
Water for homes outside of the boil water notice is safe to use.
City officials estimate that the boil water advisory will stay in effect for three to four days as GR Water crews repair the break, flush the system and conduct water sampling.

GR Water crews first responded to the water main break at the intersection of Adams St SE and Philadelphia Ave SE around 3:15 a.m.
The water took hours to shut off and lead to major flooding in the area, which included cars being completely submerged and possible water inside of basements of homes on the street.
Crews have since shut off the water and pumped the flood water out of the area.
If you have questions, or need to report a water or sewer emergency, contact customer service at 616-456-3000 or dial 3-1-1 if you are within the Grand Rapids city limits.
