KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The snow guns at Cannonsburg Ski Area are on, welcoming the colder winter weather on the way.
The resort is currently closed due to warmer, dry temperatures, and the "Pray for Snow Party" trivia events it's been holding seem to be finally paying off.
As of Thursday morning, 40 snow guns are working to prepare about 21 runs for tubing, skiing, winter biking and more.
"Whenever it's cold, we are taking every opportunity to make snow and our goal is to open as soon as possible," said Cannonsburg Program Director Danielle Musto. "With the temperatures in the high 20s, that takes about two weeks of snowmaking and that needs to be consistent. So we're just watching the weather and making snow when possible."
According to 13 ON YOUR SIDE's forecast, on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, there could be heavy, wet snowfall and strong, gusty winds.
Additional rounds of snowfall are also expected Thursday, Jan. 11 through Jan. 13.
While there's still uncertainty on whether there will be a mix of snow and rain or all-out heavy snow, one thing is certain — Cannonsburg is ready for the winter weather.
