Charges announced in Grand Rapids shooting on city's west side

The man who was shot underwent surgery and is still in the hospital in critical condition, GRPD said.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Charges have been announced in a shooting that left one person injured on Grand Rapids' west side on Aug. 9, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department. 

GRPD said Janai Battles, 34, has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Felony Firearm and CCW in the shooting.

The man who was shot underwent surgery and is still in the hospital in critical condition, GRPD said.

Police said just before 3:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Broadway Ave. NW and 7th St. NW after a caller reported hearing gunshots.

GRPD did not find a victim at the scene. However, dispatch said a man showed up at a local hospital a few minutes later with several gunshot wounds.
