GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The holidays are still a month away, but you can get in the festive spirit starting this weekend.
The popular Christkindl Markt is returning to the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids on Friday.
From Nov. 15 through Dec. 23, the parking area of the market will be stuffed to the brim with holiday beats, eats and festivities.
The Christkindl Markt will have doubled in size by opening day, as organizers said their motto for the second year of the market is "Twice the Cheer."
Organizers say more than 250,000 people visited the market last year, and they expect another big turnout this time around.
"Last year was our inaugural year, and we just kept going. It was a huge success. And so many people in Grand Rapids and from out of our city as well, just came to celebrate and so we're excited about it," said Karen Carpenter, general manager.
There will be more than 60 vendors lining the lot, adorned in twinkling lights, seasonal greenery and colorful ornaments. Check out the full list of vendors here.
"A lot of our vendors from last year did come back. It was such a success that we thought, 'well, let's expand and give others the opportunity to also be vendors here at the Downtown Market and in the Christkindl Markt,'" said Carpenter.
Vendors will offer wreaths, customizable ornaments, ceramics, snow globes, candles, jewelry, packaged foods, baked goods, pet accessories and more.
Organizers said vendors will range from local businesses to those who have traveled from other states and countries to be here for the market.
There will be strolling holiday entertainment throughout the market as well as visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The iconic "Christkind," an angelic "spirit of Christmas," from European folklore will also make appearances.
Hot Glühwein, cocoa and cider will be available in traditional ceramic mugs. Souvenir steins will be filled with "Dünk the Halls," a custom-brewed Christmas beer by Brewery Vivant.
New this year, the market will offer champagne and eggnog in commemorative glassware.
Hungry guests can enjoy food from Christkindl Markt vendors or food and beverages from inside the Downtown Market.
Also new this year is the Alpenglobe Experience at the market.
The structure of the Alpenglobe, a secluded dining enclosure, mimics the shape of a snow globe.
The Alpenglobes are heated, have Bluetooth speakers and can seat up to eight people, offering a panoramic view of the Christkindl Markt.
There are six Alpenglobes available per three-hour time slot. Reservations are necessary and can be made here.
The outdoor curling experience is returning to the market with four available sheets, double the amount from last year.
Each one-hour curling reservation includes access to a 38-foot synthetic "ice" sheet and eight stones. Reservations can be made here.
