Court docs detail extent of injuries Reed City baby received after allegedly being beaten by mother's girlfriend

Renzi McCall was four and a half months old when her mother’s girlfriend allegedly beat her while under her care.

REED CITY, Mich. —

New court documents obtained by 13 ON YOUR SIDE reveal the extent of injuries the Reed City baby, Renzi McCall, suffered by alleged suspect Savannah Marie Miller in late July.

Amber McCall, Renzi's mother, was dating Miller and asked her to watch Renzi while she went to work at a restaurant in Reed City.

Miller is accused of beating Renzi to death

Court documents show that Miller was intoxicated while watching Renzi.

Officials said Miller, who was four months sober at the time, Door Dashed 10 Fireball shooters and drank at least eight of them the night she was watching Renzi.

Miller told officials that the entire night “was very blurry.”

Court documents detail that medical records from the emergency room at Reed City indicated Renzi had severe injuries.

Renzi had "extensive contusions" on her head, face and over her left leg. She had scattered smaller contusions over her body and abrasions on her back.

Medical records from Corewell Health at DeVos showed an MRI was taken and found extensive right hemisphere, left frontal, left brainstem and cerebellar strokes.

The MRI also showed subdural hematoma and extensive hemorrhages in both eyes.

Miller recalled to police that she drank one or two shooters and either drove or walked around the block pushing the baby in a carriage. She then returned to her and Amber’s shared apartment.

While under her care, Miller said Renzi fell off a bed, which Miller claimed she also did a day before. But this bed was “much higher.”

Miller also told police she was walking with the baby and hit the baby’s head on a sharp edge in the hallway, which caused a "large lump" above her eye that was protruding about an inch out.

Miller said she was “85 percent sure” she placed Renzi on the counter while she was cooking, and that Renzi then fell, hitting her face and stomach.

After the fall, Miller said she was going to call emergency services and get medical aid for Renzi, but “she knew she was intoxicated and probably would get in trouble and after a few moments she decided that the baby would be fine,” according to authorities.

Amber tried calling Miller while at work, but Miller did not answer any of her calls or texts.

A coworker drove Amber home from work. Miller did not answer the door and did not respond to the coworker knocking on the window.

Amber and the coworker saw Miller “passed out” on her bed but could not see Renzi in her Pack ‘N Play. Miller opened the door once Amber began screaming and banging on the windows.

When Amber and her coworker made it to the Pack ‘N Play, officials said they found Renzi on her back, face up, with bruises “all over her body.” Renzi was unresponsive and had labored breathing.

A coworker told police that she saw Renzi earlier that day before going to work with Amber. She said the baby was “happy, friendly, laughing, smiling." There were “no visible injuries visible at that time.”

Miller told officials she “fully admits that she was home alone with the baby; she is the one that chose to drink alcohol; and that obviously she is the culpable party; she is the one responsible for the injuries to the baby. She advised me that they’re not intentional, but she was intoxicated.”

A friend of the family set up a GoFundMe for the family that will cover medical expenses, legal fees and other necessary costs, which can be found here

Miller was charged with two counts of child abuse and two counts of murder. She will be back in court next week.
