SPRING LAKE, Mich. — Customers in West Michigan are frustrated after learning 12 Rite Aid drugstores will close in the area.
13 ON YOUR SIDE first reported on the closures on Monday, June 17. The Rite Aid store in Spring Lake has a sign up inside that says the pharmacy will close on Thursday, June 27.
One customer outside the store Wednesday, Marcia White, said in reaction to the news, "I was so upset because we really need it, it's so convenient."
White said she is frustrated to learn her neighborhood store is closing.
"I'm really disappointed and I'm very upset now because I don't know where I'm going to go for my prescriptions," she added.
Late afternoon Wednesday, the Spring Lake store was plastered with store closing signs. The store is one of 12, part of a recent closure in Michigan as the company continues to go through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.
Inside the store, there are discount signs all over, shelves are emptying out and a sign in front of the pharmacy says, "This pharmacy will be closing permanently as of June 27th, 2024."
Friend of Marcia, Martha Corson, uses a different pharmacy in the area, but said Wednesday, "we have been inundated with pharmacy closures...in this community, the tri-cities area."
She said this is an especially difficult situation for seniors.
"We're upset because it's not easy to get around and it's important that we are able to go somewhere we can depend on them," said Corson.

Now, White is left wondering what she'll do next.
13 ON YOUR SIDE reached out to Rite Aid Corporate several times this week and has yet to receive any response. There are also no announcements on social media or the company website about the closures as of the publishing of this story.
