Man charged after allegedly injuring deputy with car in attempted arrest

The deputy was taken to a hospital for treatment. He sustained multiple bruises, scrapes and a loose tooth, according to court documents.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A man who allegedly injured a Kent County deputy after ramming two police cruisers during an attempted arrest has been charged.

Juan Jones was arraigned Monday morning.

The incident happened on Dec. 6. Probable cause documents obtained by 13 ON YOUR SIDE say detectives were watching Jones at Harry's Corner on Eastern Avenue on reports that he was selling narcotics and and owned a Glock switch, which converts a handgun into a semiautomatic weapon.

Several deputies attempted to arrest him, and Jones used his car to ram two police cruisers, causing one of the cars to hit a deputy.

The deputy was taken to a hospital for treatment. He sustained multiple bruises, scrapes and a loose tooth, according to court documents.

Jones fled the scene and was later arrested at his apartment after a search warrant was obtained by investigators.

Police found two handguns, including one with an illegal switch, and more than $5,000 in cash inside the apartment. More than a pound of marijuana and narcotics packaging was also found.

Authorities say Jones was not permitted to own a firearm due to his criminal history.

Jones is now facing multiple charges and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
