Fundraiser planned for Muskegon motorcyclist killed in crash

Nathan Conrad was killed on Sunday while riding his motorcycle after a truck crossed into Nathan's path near Apple Avenue and Roberts Street.

MUSKEGON, Michigan — The death of Nathan Conrad has shaken the Muskegon Community.

Nathan was killed on Sunday while riding his motorcycle after a truck crossed into Nathan's path near Apple Avenue and Roberts Street.

"It was absolutely tragic, it is," said family friend Tianna Dusseljee. "It's what nightmares are made of."

Tianna has been frequently talking with Nathan's wife Mary.

"They're doing what they can the girls are doing what they can," said Tianna. "She's sad. She's hurt, and as people who have been through tragic loss before, they are making it. They will continue to make it but the community support means a lot."

Last week, after 52-year-old Dane Neino was arrested and charged in Nathan's death, Mary, family and friends held a vigil to honor the husband and father a few days after the crash.

"He loved to talk and he loved to just be with people and make people smile and laugh," said Marry. "He was just warm to be around."

Tianna remembers Nathan and Mary as not only husband and wife, but also best friends.

"Not everybody has that," said Tianna. "Not even all married couples have that. And I can say that that was true. And when she, you know, describes him, she talks about how hard working he was, how much of a family man he was, went to work and he came home and he was with them."

While their community is continuing to mourn, Tianna is helping raise funds for the family with a special dinner at Pizza Ranch, to help lift at least some of the burden.

"This is something that people you know, people have to eat," said Tianna. "So this is something that people can do and have a meal at the same time."

The fundraiser will be held at Pizza Ranch in Muskegon all day, with some of the proceeds of Monday's sales going to the Conrad Family.
