The facility, which contains somewhere between 50 and 75 storage units, was badly damaged by the flames and smoke.

GRANDVILLE, Mich — Half of the units at a Grandville storage facility are considered to be a "total loss" after a fire broke out Friday afternoon.

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, the Grandville Fire Department responded to a reported fire at Mini Storage Depot, located at 4785 Canal Ave. SW.

First responders found heavy smoke and fire when they arrived on the scene.

The facility, which contains somewhere between 50 and 75 storage units, was badly damaged by the flames and smoke.

The Grandville Fire Department says that they were able to save about half of the building and its contents, while the other half is being considered a "total loss".

Authorities said that there was one person who was believed to have been inside the building when the fire started. They were treated for minor injuries and taken to a hospital by ambulance. There were no other reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental but is still under investigation, according to the fire department.

If you have questions about property stored at the facility, you should contact Mini Storage Depot directly.

The Grandville Fire Department was assisted by the Wyoming, Georgetown Township, Byron Township, Jamestown Township, Hudsonville and Walker Fire Departments, American Medical Response Ambulance, the Grandville Police Department, and the Grandville Department of Public Works.
