HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — The West Michigan woman who ordered her dog to attack her boyfriend during an argument Memorial Day weekend was sentenced on Wednesday.

37-year-old Augustina Villarreal from Hudsonville was sentenced to 75 days in the Ottawa County Jail and was ordered to serve 12 months of probation. She also needs to pay $860.

The judge did give her credit for time served.

Villarreal's sentencing comes after she pled no contest in court on June 21.

On Saturday, May 25 neighbors in the 5000 block of Chestnut Court in Hudsonville called the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office with reports of a man covered in blood.

Authorities said a man was covered in blood and showed up at a neighbor's home asking for help just before 2 a.m. because he had been bitten by a dog.

Investigators believe the 41-year-old victim lived nearby and got into a "domestic argument" with Villarreal.

She ordered her dog to attack the man and the dog bit him numerous times on the arms, deputies said.

He was able to get away from the attacking dog by escaping through a window. He went to another neighbor for help.

Emergency responders took him to the hospital for treatment, and his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Law enforcement arrested Villarreal on domestic assault and felonious assault charges.

She was arraigned in 58th District Court on the felonious assault with a dangerous weapon charge.

The judge gave her a $100,000 bond and held her in the Ottawa County Jail.

The sheriff's office said Animal Control investigated this attack and took the dog. The dog was being held pending the completion of the investigation and its status is currently unknown.
