ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — An Allegan County family is asking for support after a crash on June 30 killed a man and left his wife and kids with serious injuries.

"They're just good people and they need everybody's support and prayers,” said a family member, Tina Josten.

Josten said her nephew, Danny Savage, his wife Chelsea and their three boys were traveling in Fillmore Township when their car collided with a pickup truck at 136th Avenue and 58th Street.

According to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office, the preliminary investigation showed that the Savage family was traveling westbound on 136th Avenue and didn't stop for the stop sign at 58th Street. They were then hit by a pickup truck traveling northbound on 58th Street.

ACSO said the intersection is a two-way stop for traffic on 136th Avenue and cars traveling on 58th Street have the right of way.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, deputies said.

Josten said the family was on their way to ride dune buggies. She said she was with her sister, Savage’s mother, when they got the call that he and his family had been in a crash.

“They told us that we had lost Danny and then all of the other ones were in the hospital,” said Josten.

She said the youngest son could come home soon and Danny’s wife Chelsea is awake but has a long recovery ahead of her. Their other two sons remain in the hospital in serious condition.

“We went up to see them all in in the hospital and oh, my god, oh my god. It didn't even set in the first day. It didn't even set in. It really didn't even after seeing all those babies and just absolutely unreal,” said Josten.

Josten said her nephew Danny was a jokester who loved to have fun. She said he was a true family man who always put his wife and kids first.

When officials told Josten it was Danny who drove through the stop sign at the crash, she said she and her family didn't believe that was true.

“Not with his family in the car. He has never had a ticket. He's a very cautious driver and I've heard nothing but bad things about that corner that you can look and start and then all of a sudden, traffic will come out of nowhere,” said Josten.

Her family is now not only asking for support but also trying to tell Danny's story, in hopes others remember him as a loving husband and father.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help support them during this tough time.
