KENTWOOD, Mich. — Title-winning UFC fighter Jamahal Hill will head to trial for assault just one month after he headlines in the biggest fight of the year.
Jamahal Hill, a Rogers High School grad and former Davenport basketball player, is facing aggravated domestic violence charges.
Hill was arrested in Kentwood on Nov. 27 around 1 a.m. He was arraigned that same day.
Court documents released to 13 ON YOUR SIDE say Hill assaulted his brother, James Hill Jr., two days prior at a home on Quaker Hill Court SE.
James told police he was in an argument with his brother when Hill punched him, knocking him to the ground. When he got back onto his feet, his brother once again punched him to the ground.
Officers say the left side of James' face was "very swollen" and he was missing a front tooth when they arrived.
Hill beat Glover Teixera in a unanimous decision in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 283 on Jan. 21, 2023, earning him the Light Heavyweight title. He vacated the title in June after rupturing his Achilles tendon.
Officials announced in February that Hill will face Alex Pereira, the current 205-pound champion, at UFC 300 on April 13 in Las Vegas.
The announcement came from UFC president Dana White after UFC 298: Volkanovski vs. Topuria.
The card includes some of the UFC's biggest stars. The West Michigan native's fight is slated to be the main event, closing the massive night for the sport.
