One person hurt after large fire at Kalamazoo encampment

The injured was treated and released with minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Just before 1 a.m. Saturday, a Kalamazoo officer noticed a large fire while investigating a criminal complaint in the area of Blaine St. and O Neal St.

That fire appeared to be out of control near multiple tents in an encampment. The officer rushed to evacuate the tents. One person has minor injuries and was treated and released by a local ambulance service.

The fire was contained within 10 minutes. The Fire Marshal's office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
