KENTWOOD, Mich. — A suspect has been charged in Kentwood for the death of a pregnant Kentwood teacher, Amber Guichelaar.
Richard James Guichelaar, 35 years old, was arraigned on an open murder charge today.
Amber, according to police, was a 32-year-old Kentwood Public School teacher with two young children. She was also pregnant with her third child at the time of her death.
She was found dead at her home on Monday, Nov. 16, 2020. At the time, police believed the cause of her death to be suspicious.
Almost two months later, police were able to develop probable cause to arrest a suspect for her murder. Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker issued an open murder warrant for Guichelaar on Friday, Jan. 8.
He was arrested by the Kentwood Police Department and charged in district court. His bond was set at $2 million dollars and his next court date will be on Thursday, Jan. 21.
