WYOMING, Mich — Law enforcement arrested a suspect in the killing of a 25-year-old woman earlier this week.
Court documents filed against Anthony Buxton allege he shot and killed Kanivla Howard-Brownley in front of his house, and the ordeal was captured on surveillance video nearby.
Buxton is now charged with open murder, felonious assault and three firearms charges, according to court documents.
This stems back to Sunday, when police responded to the 3400 block of Bluebird Avenue Southwest for a report of a shooting around 12:40 p.m.
When they arrived, officers said they found a 25-year-old Wyoming woman with multiple gunshot wounds.
She was taken to a local hospital for treatment but died from her injuries, police said.
Buxton was then taken into custody.
A probable cause affidavit filed Monday details that witnesses saw what happened leading up to her killing and immediately after, including hearing the pair arguing and then hearing gunshots. Those witnesses also told detectives they saw the suspect with a firearm in his hand.
Court documents said a friend of the victim found her on the ground, so she confronted Buxton.
Detectives said he still had the handgun and is accused of pointing it at the friend while threatening to shoot her as well.
Authorities said after the shooting, the suspect returned to his garage and put the gun in a bucket.
Investigators found the gun along with what they said were matching unspent rounds in the garage.
