GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man who shot and injured a coworker back in April 2023 learned his sentence Wednesday.

Dimario Parker was charged with attempted homicide, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm in connection to the shooting. He was found guilty in July.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years for the attempted homicide charge. He will also serve an additional two years at minimum for the other two charges, on which he received a credit of 496 days already served.

Judge Christina Elmore, who presided over the case, also ordered Parker to pay court fees and costs.

The incident goes back to April 28, 2023, when police responded to Woodland Creek Apartments in Kentwood on reports of shots fired. The caller said a man had shot into a vehicle.

Police said Parker and his coworker were apparently involved in an altercation before the shooting.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery.

Parker was arrested at a Grand Rapids home later that day.

"It was miraculous that you didn't kill him," Judge Elmore said, saying the victim lost his kidney and still has a bullet in his body near his spine.

Before hearing his sentence, Parker briefly addressed the court, saying, "It was a mistake." He asked for leniency from the judge and mentioned his children.

"It's unfortunate for you, it's unfortunate for (the victim), and it's definitely unfortunate for your children that this situation occurred," she said.

Parker had one prior misdemeanor on his record.
