MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Police have identified the human remains found in a Muskegon Heights home that caught on fire Tuesday morning.
39-year-old Jamaun E. Robinson, the owner of the home, was recovered from the house.
Police are still investigating the cause of the fire at this time.
The home is located in the 2000 block of Superior Street. According to Muskegon Heights Fire Chief Christopher Dean crews were called to the home around 5 a.m. on reports of an explosion.
Dean said when crews arrived on scene, they saw heavy smoke and the home was partially collapsed. Firefighters immediately went to work knocking down the flames. The home was destroyed in the fire. Crews later found the body under a collapsed section of the roof.
The body was sent to the Western Michigan University Center for Pathology for an autopsy. City records show the house should have been vacant.
Dean said neighbors believe the house has been vacant for about three weeks. Crews searched the rubble and officials do not believe any other bodies are in the house.
Dean said his crews will work with the Michigan State Police Investigation Unit to determine what caused the fire. The house did not have gas service.
