MUSKEGON, Mich. — A West Michigan man who crossed the center line and fatally struck a motorcyclist in Muskegon last November learned his sentence in court Monday morning.

The judge sentenced Dane Neino Sr. to serve 9 to 22 years in prison in the crash that claimed the life of 38-year-old Nathan Conrad.

The crash happened in November 2023 on Apple Avenue near Roberts Street. Investigators at the time said Neino's vehicle crossed the center line and hit Conrad, killing him.

Neino was charged with two counts of driving with a suspended license, one count of negligent homicide using a vehicle and one count of driving under the influence. Neino was suspected to have been high on cocaine and methamphetamine at the time of the crash.

After multiple attempts to get a plea from Neino, he finally entered a plea of no contest in June.

A plea of no contest essentially means that Neino accepts the conviction and sentencing while not actually admitting to or disputing the charges.

Conrad's wife told 13 ON YOUR SIDE he loved to ride his bike and was loved by everyone around him. Conrad is remembered as an "amazing father, brother, uncle and friend."

His wife says he didn't deserve what happened to him.
