SILVER LAKE, Michigan — Health officials have determined that swimming at Lighthouse Beach at Silver Lake State Park is now safe following high levels of E. coli—just in time for your Fourth of July plans!
Officials with the District Health Department collected samples from the beach this week, and one of three samples showed "unusually high" levels of E. coli. An advisory urging Michiganders to avoid water contact was issued Wednesday.
On Thursday, officials said samples no longer show elevated levels of E. coli. The advisory has since been lifted, and it is now safe to swim and take part in water activities at the beach.
You can find more information about advisories and beach closures at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy's website here.
