FRUITPORT, Mich. — The Fruitport Township Police Department said no one was injured in a shooting at the Old Fashioned Days Festival on Saturday night.
Police said at 10:17 p.m. a gunshot was heard in the carnival section of the event. They said officers at the event responded to the scene and secured the area quickly.
No one was injured from the gunshot, police said.
Police are currently investigating the incident and said they're looking for the suspects involved, however, they don't believe there's any ongoing threat to the public.
The Old Fashioned Days Festival will continue as scheduled on Sunday.
In a Facebook post, the Superintendent of Fruitport Community Schools, Jason J. Kennedy, said he activated the District Emotional Support Team.
Kennedy said he's also contacted the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District and Health West for additional support for students and staff.
He said there will be a team of support personnel ready to assist students when they return to school on Tuesday, but if they need help earlier to contact the 24-hour Health West helpline at (231) 722-HELP (4357) or contact him for assistance in finding the help they need.
Anyone with information, witness statements or personal video recordings of the incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Bryan Rypstra or Deputy Chief Greg Poulson at the Fruitport Township Police Department. Information can also be reported to Silent Observer at (231) 722-7463.
