MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. — An inmate who had been seriously injured when he escaped from a moving transport vehicle on Thursday has died from his injuries, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office

Deputies said around 7:40 a.m. on Oct. 24 they were transporting a prisoner, who has been identified as 25-year-old Tylor Lee Ormsbee of Kalamazoo, to the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC).

When they reached Gratiot County and were traveling on US-127, deputies said the Ormsbee was able to escape from the rear secured compartment of the moving transport van.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, MCSO said Ormsbee died from the injuries he sustained in the incident.

Ormsbee had been sentenced to MDOC for a probation violation and was being taken there when the incident occurred.

MCSO said more information will be released once the Michigan State Police finish their criminal investigation and the Michigan Sheriff's Association Mission Team has completed the internal investigation.

Deputies asked the public to keep Ormsbee's family in their thoughts.
