GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The annual Amway River Bank Run is happening on Saturday, May 11 but road closures for the race are beginning as early as 3 p.m. on Friday, May 10.
The City of Walker's Police Department posted on Facebook and said runners will be moving through the south end of Walker and around Johnson and Millennium Parks. They reminded the public that once the road is closed for the race, no one will be allowed through.
Below is a list of road closures and the times they're taking place so you can plan accordingly:
Friday, May 10
- 3 p.m.
- Monroe from Michigan to Louis
- (Leaving the Pearl Street intersection open for EB/WB traffic until 6 p.m.)
- Lyon west of Ellis Midtowne Parking lot to Grand River
- Ellis Midtowne lot must exit east (towards Ottawa) on Lyon only
- Monroe from Michigan to Louis
- 6 p.m.
- Pearl and Monroe intersection closed to thru traffic
- Pearl closed between Monroe and Ellis Midtowne lot
- Ellis Midtowne & Sears lot exit east (towards Ottawa) on Pearl only
- Monroe closed completely to Louis
- (No traffic between Louis & Michigan on Monroe)
- Monroe Center between Monroe and Ottawa
Saturday, May 11
- 3:30 a.m.
- Ottawa Avenue between Michigan and Louis
- Lyon Street between Division and Monroe
- 6:45 a.m.
- Ottawa from Louis and Oakes
- All 5K course streets
- Wealthy @ Grandville – No thru traffic – Left turn to SB Grandville only
- Wealthy closed between Front & Grandville
- (Including Market intersection)
- US-131 @ Pearl NB/SB Ramps
- I-196 EB/WB ramps @ Market
- 7 a.m.
- All 10K course streets
- Butterworth between O’Brien & Front
- 7:30 a.m.
- WB Wilson Avenue between 28th and Butterworth (City of Grandville) lane closures for race traffic
- Butterworth between O’Brien and Maynard
- Veterans Memorial Drive between Butterworth and Maynard
- Butterworth between Veterans Memorial Drive and M11
- Indian Mounds Drive and Market to Wealthy
- 7:55 a.m.
- All downtown streets along the 25K course
Downtown streets that will remain closed until approximately 12:30 p.m.
- Ottawa between Michigan and Oakes
- Lyon between Ottawa & Ionia
- Pearl between Ottawa & Ionia
- Louis between Monroe & Ionia
- Market between Indian Mounds & Wealthy
- Wealthy between Front & Grandville
- Grandville between Wealthy and Weston
Downtown streets that will remain closed until approximately 5 p.m.
- Monroe between Michigan and Louis
- Lyon between Monroe and Ottawa
- Pearl between Monroe and Ottawa (including the Pearl/Monroe intersection
- Monroe Center between Monroe and Ottawa
Projected Ramp Closings
- I-196 EB/WB off-ramp to Market will be closed between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
- US131 NB/SB off-ramp to Market at Cherry between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
- US131 NB/SB off-ramp to Pearl will be closed
Streets will open at different times when events are complete in the area.
The west side of Grand Rapids, in the John Ball Park area, is expected to be open to traffic by 9:30 a.m.
Organizers of the race ask that people plan accordingly and park their vehicle outside of the race area.
Suggested parking ramps and lots that are outside of the street closures are:
- Monroe Center Ramp located on Ionia
- (Between Louis & Monroe Center - enter off Ionia between Fulton & Pearl)
- Ottawa-Fulton Ramp located on Fulton
- (Enter off Ionia between Fulton & Louis)
- Pearl-Ionia Ramp located on Ionia
- (Enter off Ionia between Fountain and Pearl)
- 210 Ionia
- (Ellis Parking)
- 90 Market
- (Ellis Parking)
