CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. — A woman was charged with 11 counts after crashing into a group of pedestrians in Clinton County over the weekend, killing 2 and injuring 14 others, police say.
Ashley Monroe, a Perrinton woman, was driving on South Wacousta Road near Corrison Road in Watertown Township around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to court documents.
A group of pedestrians, later determined to be family, was walking along the shoulder of the road when a car hit them. Police say Monroe then drove off.
Two people were declared dead at the scene: Johnathan Esch, 30, from Grand Haven and Daniel Harris, 42, from Grand Ledge. A total of 14 others were taken to hospitals for treatment, including eight children.
Deputies say eight people have since been released. Six remain in the hospital at this time, including one person in critical condition.
Monroe is lodged at the Clinton County Jail. She's charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death, two counts of failure to stop at scene of accident when at fault, causing death, six counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and one count of failure to stop at scene of accident resulting in serious impairment or death.
If convicted, she could face a lifetime in prison.
