GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The World of Winter is getting off to a rocky start, ironically because of winter.

On Friday, the World of Winter had to postpone their opening festival, which included "The Luminary Light Night Parade", originally scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday. A makeup date has not yet been announced.

And now on Saturday, festival organizers had to postpone the "Fire and Ice" event at Rosa Parks Circle. This event has a new date of Friday, Jan. 26 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., according to Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.

One of the art installations also had to take a hiatus from its display area due to high winds. The large inflatable frogs at Ah-Nab-Awen Park were taken down Friday night.

But, the organizers of the festival made sure to share some humor with the postponement announcements, saying "It appears that we've summoned a winter storm" in a Facebook post ahead of the festival.

It appears that we've summoned a Winter Storm... tonight's Luminary Light Night Parade is postponed. Stay tuned for a rescheduled date and stay safe today, everyone! #WorldOfWinterGR

As of Saturday afternoon, all of the other events planned for World of Winter are unaffected by any cancellations or postponements.

The World of Winter Festival is the largest winter festival in the nation. Visitors can enjoy art installations, ice sculptures, activities, a scavenger hunt and more. It runs until March 10.
