ZEELAND, Mich. — Donna May Hyma, 63, is being remembered by her family as a loving, independent and generous woman.
Hyma was found dead on Jan. 1 when police were called to her home to check on her well-being. According to court documents her boyfriend who lived with her at the time, 57-year-old Randall Grinwis, has admitted to her murder.
Grinwis was arraigned in Ottawa County and his bond was denied.
In her obituary, Hyma's family said she could often be heard saying it's important to "slow down and enjoy life."
They remember her as being honest, forgiving and never judgmental. They also said she enjoyed spending time with people and was an excellent listener.
"Her energy and passion for life was contagious just like her smile," read her obituary. "Donna also had a great sense of humor and truly knew how to have a good time. She was loved by everyone that knew her and she will truly be missed."
Hyma is survived by her son, David Naber; daughter, Lisa (Maxwell) VanderYacht; grandchildren, Jasmyn, Melody, Amerie, David Jr., Evelyn, and Jonny; brothers, Randy and Danny; and many nieces and nephews.
Family said a celebration of life for Hyma will take place in the spring. Her professional service was entrusted to the Mulder Chapel.
