GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Those living in the greater Grand Rapids area should prepare for a winter storm hitting the area Wednesday evening.
Harsh winter storm elements are expected to start Wednesday around 5 p.m. and last until Thursday. Powerful winds are a main concern, as many power outages could arise.
Whiteout conditions are also expected to be an issue for drivers.

Drivers should be aware that white conditions can occur during their commute home from work. Here's some tips for safe snowy driving:
- Drive with caution and slow down
- Leave space between you and other cars
- Keep headlights on
How to stay warm
If a power outage occurs:
- Ensure all doors and windows are properly shut
- Cover the bottom of doors with towels to keep air outside
- Put on loose-fitting, warm clothing
- Keep faucets at a constant drip to avoid pipes bursting
- Keep generators at least 20 feet away from your home
