Wayne State lands trio of Muskegon Big Reds on National Signing Day

The last time they played together was at Ford Field as state champs and the next time will be as teammates in college.

MUSKEGON, Mich. — The Wayne State football team might need to change its mascot to the Big Reds next season.

On Wednesday, a trio of Muskegon football players put pen to paper to sign with the GLIAC program in Detroit.

The three Big Reds are offensive lineman Karl Brooks, two-way star Dacarion Taylor and quarterback M'Khi Guy

"It feels good," Taylor said. "I can be around people I know. I will still have to make other friends. It's always good to have somebody you know close by that you can trust."

The fact that the last time they took the field was at Ford Field as state champs and the next time will be as teammates in college is special for the Big Reds.

"It's really a blessing," Brooks said. "It is really cool that we get to stick together for four more years and have fun and show people what Muskegon football is all about."

Muskegon football has been a lot about winning lately. The program now has 900 victories, which is good for the most wins in the history in the state.

Wayne State has not seen that same level of winning. The Warriors went just 3-8 overall in 2023.

The Big Reds hope they can take their culture and help win some games on the east side of the state.

"Championship winning culture and winning mentality, I feel like here in Muskegon that's how we are built," Guy said. "We are built as winners and if we do that at Wayne State it will be another topic. Winners win. They always find a way to win."

The day was extra special as Guy celebrated his 18th birthday.
