MARSHALL, Mich. — Storm damage is being reported across West Michigan after strong storms moved through the region overnight into Wednesday. The hardest-hit areas include Kalamazoo, Van Buren and Calhoun counties.
The storms brought high winds, golf ball-sized hail and heavy rain to the area. Because of this, many damage reports include downed trees and wires and debris blocking roadways.
A 911 dispatcher and trained storm spotter in Calhoun County reported a tornado around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in Marshall.
The National Weather Service is expected to survey areas in both Van Buren and Calhoun counties later Wednesday to determine if a tornado did touch down, as well as assess the damage.

There are also reports of a suspected tornado touching down in the Grand Blanc area. While damage is severe, police say no injuries were reported.
In Michigan, a total of 12,000 people are without power Wednesday morning, but a majority of those power outages are on the east side of the state. Less than 1,000 people in West Michigan have suffered power outages due to the storm.
Crews are now working to restore power and clean up. Consumers Energy said they were preparing workers Tuesday to respond as quickly as possible.
This comes as temperatures are anticipated to plummet Wednesday, bringing the potential for flash freezing and snowfall.
