Michigan couple in their 80s found dead in their home in apparent homicide to be laid to rest

Jessie Seward, 81, and Virginia Seward, 80, were found dead in their home on June 24. Their loved ones will lay them to rest this week.

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. — A Montcalm County couple of nearly 28 years will be laid to rest later this week in Greenville. 

Jessie and Virginia Seward were found dead in their home on Beaver Drive near Sheridan on June 26. A family member went to check on them and found them both dead. 

Based on evidence at the scene, police determined both died by homicide. 

According to their obituary, Jessie was born in Texas and was a United States Air Force veteran. He moved to Michigan in the 70s and worked for Extruded Metals for 34 years. 

Virginia was born in Maine, and later in life worked at Sheridan Village Market. She married Jessie in 1996. 

They both worked at Stanton Hardware together. 

"They were both faithful followers of Jesus and active members of Greenville Community Church. They will leave a legacy of faith, kindness, and love for their family," their obituary reads.

The Staton American Legion Post 452 and the Greenville American Legion Post 101 Honor Guards will give military honors at the burial. 

A memorial service celebrating their lives is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Greenville Community Church. 

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the service that Wednesday. 

Memorial contributions can be given to the Greenville Community Church or the family.
