WYOMING, Mich. — The second man who ran through a Wyoming Walmart on New Year's Eve last year firing shots at a fleeing victim was convicted.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said Friday afternoon a jury found Latrell Young guilty of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, two counts of discharging in or at a building causing injury and other weapons charges.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

The other man charged in the incident, Camrin Carpenter, took a plea deal and was sentenced to prison in August.

The incident took place on Dec. 31, 2023, at the Walmart in Wyoming. Carpenter and Latrell Young got into a verbal altercation with a shopper at the checkout.

Police said that Carpenter showed the victim his gun before the victim ran from the two men.

Young and Carpenter chased the victim through the store and Young shot him several times at close range. Police said at least 10 rounds were fired.

That victim, who was shot, showed up to a hospital later for treatment. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The second victim, a woman who authorities said was not a target, was also struck.

At the time of the shooting, the store was full and was evacuated. The store closed for the night but reopened the next morning.

When this incident happened, Carpenter was on bond for a prior charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
